I've Met My Deductible, Now What?

Making the most of your health care insurance begins with better understanding your individual or family health care plan. Do you have a high or low deductible? Is your health care plan an individual or family plan? Which health services apply to your deductible? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, our best advice would be to contact your insurance provider directly to find out. Knowledge about your deductible and health care benefits will be key for making the most of your plan in 2021.

What Is a Health Care Deductible?

Let's start with the basics: A health care deductible is the amount of money you pay out of pocket for medical expenses before your insurance kicks in and begins paying for procedures. For example, if your deductible is $2,000, you will be responsible for paying all of your health and medical expenses until you reach the $2,000 mark. Once you have met that $2,000 deductible, your health insurance provider may begin paying for a large portion, if not all, of your medical care costs.
