- Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment and bring your referral. If you need to reschedule or cancel, call 24 hours in advance.
- You may be asked to remove all metal and plastic items, including jewelry, watches, hairpins, barrettes, glasses, hearing aids, non-permanent dentures and other metal dental appliances like retainers, hairpieces with metal clips, and belts from the part of your body that is being examined.
- Tell us if you are or may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.
- Let us know what medications you take, including non-prescription medicines and supplements. Also let us know if you are allergic to contrast medium (dye).
- If a contrast medium injection or oral medication is needed, it will be given to you when you arrive for your appointment.
Special instructions for head, neck, chest or lung CT
- Do not eat anything for 3 hours before your scan.
Special instructions for abdominal or pelvic CT
- Do not eat or drink anything except clear liquids for 3 hours before your scan.
Special instructions for patients with diabetes
- If you take oral diabetic medications such as Meformin, Glucophage, Glucovance, Avandamet, Fortamet, and Metaglip, you will need to get your doctor’s permission to stop taking the medication for 48 hours after the CT test. You will need a blood test to assess your kidney function before you begin taking the diabetic medication again.
