How Advanced Radiology Minimizes Your Exposure to CT Radiation: An Important Message to Our Patients

December 22, 2009 - The media has recently raised concerns about CT radiation exposure during diagnostic imaging. Advanced Radiology takes patient safety very seriously and assures our patients that we take precautions to minimize CT radiation exposure for each procedure. A partial listing of these precautions follows:

• All of our equipment is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR), a national organization that sets the standards for medical radiation procedures in the U.S. All of our sites have passed their stringent accreditation requirements and our protocols are well within acceptable guidelines.

• Our CT scanning protocols are tailored to meet the individual needs of each of our patients.

• All of our sites are ACR accredited in pediatric procedures, which indicates we have developed specific imaging protocols for pediatric patients, which specifically limit radiation exposure. Advanced Radiology is in compliance with the American College of Radiology “Image Gently” program for pediatric patients.

• A radiation health physicist inspects our equipment at least annually to ensure that the performance standards of our equipment are maintained and that radiation exposure is appropriate for the procedure being performed.
